Overview & Position Summary
This role provides senior-level support to the purchasing team, ensuring accurate and timely procurement coordination for materials,
trades, and suppliers that support construction operations. The position works with limited supervision to manage day-to-day purchasing
activities while addressing moderately complex issues that impact team results. It serves as a resource for other team members and
assists in training, coaching, and process improvement. The role also collaborates with cross-functional teams to support operational
efficiency and project delivery.
Primary Responsibilities
• Coordinate and manage purchase orders, vendor communications, and delivery schedules to support construction and
operational requirements.
• Assist in bid preparation, contract documentation, and pricing verification for projects or community starts.
• Monitor vendor performance and follow up on delivery, quality, and service issues, escalating when appropriate.
• Provide guidance and coaching to other team members to ensure adherence to processes.
• Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, contracts, pricing, and correspondence within procurement systems.
• Analyze and resolve moderately complex procurement issues that involve multiple departments or job areas.
• Support cross-functional teams, including Construction, Operations, and Design, in addressing purchasing-related inquiries and
requests.
• Contribute to process improvements, documentation updates, and operational efficiency initiatives within the purchasing team.
• Communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders regarding materials, orders, and scheduling requirements.
• Prepare reports or summaries on procurement activity and performance for team and management review.
Education & Experience
Required:
• Associate’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience, OR 5–7 years equivalent experience in purchasing, procurement, or
construction support roles.
Preferred:
• Experience in homebuilding, residential construction, or construction materials procurement.
• Familiarity with procurement software, ERP systems, and construction management platforms.
Skills & Competencies
• Broad knowledge of purchasing systems, operational processes, and procurement practices.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities.
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, vendors, and trade partners.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, data entry, and recordkeeping.
• Problem-solving skills for moderately complex purchasing issues.
• Ability to provide guidance, coaching, and support to team members.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or procurement software platforms.
• Knowledge of construction materials, trades, and homebuilding operations.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Commitment to adherence to policies, procedures, and process standards
Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment with routine interaction across teams and vendors. Occasional visits to construction sites may be required to validate materials, review delivery schedules, or coordinate with trades. Limited travel may be required for vendor meetings or corporate events.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during office work.
• Ability to walk and navigate construction sites with uneven terrain.
• Ability to lift or carry documents, reports, or material samples up to 20 pounds.
• Ability to communicate clearly in person, via phone, and in team meetings.
